My first passion is undoubtedly architecture. I believe it is man's most noble art form. But one must have patience to practice...many of my projects are years in the making. This is why I began to paint, to not have to wait years to see the end result of the creative process.
After painting for a few years I began to run out of space for the paintings. Within me grew a desire to create a lasting artwork that could not be destroyed by the elements and the longing to see an art piece be displayed out in nature on the ranch where I live. Also, I felt my sculpture had the potential to compliment the architecture I had created on the ranch. So I began to sculpt and weld in steel.
What follows in this gallery are my first five years worth of sculpture. None of these pieces have been exhibited in a gallery, or for that matter left our ranch. I believe welding sculptures is something I will want to do for the rest of my life. I hopefully will never run out of inspiration for a new piece as well as space to exhibit on the ranch.

"Red Dog" and "Blue Man" are the first 2 elements of a larger sculpture that I am building called "The Hunt."
The third and remaining element of the sculpture is a bird mobile that will be yellow in color. This sculpture will grace our Devil's Backbone estate vineyard at Rancho Mirando.

Metanoia

mild steel
Metanoia is the Latin word for "look in a different direction for happiness." The word was mistranslated in the bible hundreds of times as "repent." Metanoia doesn't mean repent.
"Metanoia" the sculpture also contains three circles which symbolize the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. This sculpture is placed along the Processional Arbor of Bella Vista, Rancho Mirando's outdoor wedding park that I built for my bride in 2014-2015.

Grace Totum

live oak wood and mild steel base
In 1995 I designed and built a house in Lakeway, Texas for my parents. A couple old live oak trees had to be cut down on the small lot in order for us to build the house. I resurrected the cut down live oak trees and gave them a new purpose; 3 fireplace mantles. When it became time to sell the house I took one of the live oak mantles that I had made and replaced it with a generic one.
This mantle was in storage for 20 years before I decided to make it into a sculpture. While I sanded the wood and welded the steel base I thought about the wonderful memories our family had in the Lakeway house. I particularly recalled happy times with my mother in the house that I designed and built for her and dad. Her name was Grace.
